Every June, Annecy is transformed into the beating heart of global animation.
But the reason this Festival is so eagerly awaited is because it is much more than just an event. It is a collective movement and a declaration of love for animation films, their power and freedom of speech.
We owe this to all those at CITIA who prepare for this week with passion, rigour and commitment. Their work behind the scenes is the foundation of the incredible experience we all share.
The Festival is showcasing the inventive, free and profoundly original Hungarian animation. This country of artists and poets offers us an insightful and enchanting vision of the world. Its history, shaped by struggles, underground movements and visionary acts, strikes a powerful chord with the spirit of animation film.
We are also celebrating the Mifa's 40th anniversary. Over four decades, the Market has not only grown, but it has also transformed our industry. Today more than ever, it is a driving force for creativity and cooperation on a global scale.
The Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation will open its doors a year from now. It will be a place for the future to reflect, transmit, create and dream together. In Annecy, rather than animation film being celebrated just one week a year, it will instead become a way of life, of constant creation, and always be looking ahead.
So yes, 2025 is a celebration. It is a demanding, inclusive, and vibrant celebration.
Let's enjoy it and share our emotions, visions and convictions.
And now, more than ever, long live animation film and long live Annecy!
