Saima – Scenes from a Midlife Crisis
Saima, a 40-year-old judge, senses trouble when her beloved Ludvig grows distant during a work trip. A package containing a mysterious wooden frog arrives at her office. Upon his return, Ludvig admits to an affair, confirming Saima’s fears. The frog, an unsettling object tied to Saima’s distant mother, appears in unexpected places, pulling her into a series of nightmares that blur the line between reality and fear. At Ludvig’s brother’s wedding, Saima breaks down, crashes a police car and ends up in prison. Desperate for answers, she turns to her apprentice Denika, who guides her through a ritual designed to combat the dark power of the frog. The ritual touches something deep, but it fails to break the frog’s hold over her. Saima’s unexpected pregnancy deepens her turmoil but offers a sense of purpose. To free herself from the frog’s grip, she must reconnect with her mother after years of silence. With Ludvig far away in the Arctic, Saima cradles her newborn, Manivald, and whispers: "I will never leave you."
