2026 Annecy Festival Residency

First launched in 2020, the Annecy Festival Residency will hold its 6th edition in 2026, asserting its support for creation in general, and most importantly for the animation feature film industry.

The Residency

With the support of the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the Département de la Haute-Savoie, the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the CNC and Netflix, CITIA, organiser of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, pledges its commitment to animation feature film writers by giving them privileged support, the time and a place to create, to network, to provide increased visibility, and to have project follow-up.

The Annecy Festival Residency provides a tailor-made offer to each of the selected projects, in an inspiring and stimulating ecosystem, as well as connecting with esteemed mentors in the animation sector.

A Word from the Selection Committee

"In a society where history keeps repeating itself, it's no surprise to see projects appearing that question the past as much as they shed light on the present. While sometimes dark, or full of rebellion and hope, these projects take a committed look at social issues as well as offering unique and provocative narratives.

These three projects, which oscillate between memory and conflict, violence and hope, refuse to give in to fatalism and revisit fragments of life and history in their own unique way. Using a variety of forms and aesthetics, they once again demonstrate the expressive power of animation film.

The selection committee was therefore keen to showcase projects driven by a strong artistic vision and profound commitment. Beyond their creative dimension, these projects boldly question our world, reflecting a broader timescale where recurring themes, heritage and enduring human issues intertwine."

The 2026 call for projects

Some key figures from the 2026 Annecy Festival Residency:

  • 52 applicants
  • 29 nationalities represented
  • 42% of projects led by women

Once again, the sheer diversity of the proposals made the selection process challenging, but the committee succeeded in reaching a consensus on a number of compelling projects that were both meaningful and creatively rich. These projects stood out for their powerful messages, the relevance of the Residency to the filmmakers' careers, and their ambition to one day see their stories brought to life on the big screen.

The selection committee, composed of leading figures in animation – Camille Condemi (Producer, Caïmans Productions), Amandine Fredon (Director), Doris Gruel (Distributor, Little KMBO), Stéphane Kazandjian (Screenwriter) and Benjamin Renner (Director) – unanimously selected the 3 projects.
