The 2026 Edition Is Shaping Up!

Share

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is back on 21st to 27th June and the Mifa from 23rd to 26th June 2026, to celebrate the wealth and diversity of global animation in all its forms.

This year promises an even more amazing experience for professionals, animation fans, film enthusiasts seeking inspiration, and anyone in search of something unique.

The 2026 edition will be a historic first: it will mark the opening of the Cité internationale du cinéma d'animation, a venue like no other anywhere in France or in the world, which will become one of the new beating hearts of the Festival.

To celebrate this world first, Annecy is breaking with tradition: this year, there won't be a guest country but rather a compelling theme that highlights a key belief: animation is a cinematic art, with no limits!

The "Animated Thrills and Chills" programme at the Festival celebrates the true force of our art form: animation is not a genre, it's a language that brings out the full potential of cinema.

"Horror, science fiction, fantasy, thriller, western, all genres have their home in the animation film galaxy. This year, the Annecy Festival explores the vast realm of film that makes us shiver with fear, pleasure, anxiety or adventure." Marcel Jean, the Festival's Artistic Director

This year, the International Animation Film Market is reviewing its programme around four key themes:

  • Mifa Talents: head to Le Campus Mifa for special offers for students and young professionals in the industry. Here they can explore and experiment with the latest technologies, participate in workshops and masterclasses led by leading names in animation, and meet their future employers!
  • Mifa Business provides professionals with a dedicated venue to be able to discuss ideas, identify their future projects, meet their prospective teams and form new partnerships.
  • Mifa Trends enables professionals and students to learn more about the future of the industry. Take a look at how animation will evolve in the future through conferences, demos and studio presentations.
  • Mifa Exhibition: the Exhibition Area that covers 7,000 m² hosts 975 exhibiting companies and 18,200 accredited attendees over four days!

Numerous events will be organised around three key themes:

  • Mifa Cross IP unites all forms of storytelling. This unique venue at the heart of the Mifa encourages the adaptation and expansion of intellectual property by bringing together for the first time ever players from the fields of immersive creations, video games, publishing, comics and webtoons.
  • Mifa AI is an exclusive programme entirely focused on artificial intelligence in the animation sector. It will offer a comprehensive overview of the technological, creative, ethical and environmental challenges it presents, as well as the new possibilities it can offer.
  • Mifa Invest is a day of workshops that brings together key players in animation and investment to foster discussion, mutual understanding and collaboration on ambitious projects.

Until we meet in June, the Annecy Festival and its Market (Mifa) invite you to join us at the Annecy Animation Showcase EFM in Berlin on 13th February.

This initiative, inspired by Annecy's Work in Progress events and launched in Cannes a few years ago, aims to support projects beyond the Mifa and the Festival. It showcases an exclusive selection of animation feature films at various stages of their development. Here's a sneak peek at the most exciting upcoming projects spotted at Annecy!
