Lysistrata
Triple Oscar-winner Richard Williams' last film – Lysistrata – is the sequel to Prologue, which had its world premiere in Annecy in 2015. Set in ancient Greece, it is the story of women who want to stop their menfolk from fighting in a war between Athens and Sparta. Organised by their leader Lysistrata and her bawdy friend Kalonike, the women gather to discuss going on a sex strike. Richard Williams hand-drew over 9,000 animation drawings for the film. As well as directing and animating the film, Williams is the voice of Kalonike, while Meera Syal stars as Lysistrata.
