Just before the screening of Marcell Jankovics' film The Son of the White Mare, it was announced that an award would be created in the director's honour.
On Thursday 25th June, the Cinéma de la Cité welcomed Alfonso Cuarón, the Oscar-winning Mexican director, actor, screenwriter and producer (Roma, Gravity...), to present a Hungarian folk tale by Marcell Jankovics.
Together with the late director's wife, the Annecy Festival wanted to pay tribute to one of the leading figures in animation by creating the Marcell Jankovics Award. From 2027, this award will recognise the best film in the Perspectives Short Films category.
His wife, Éva Rubovszky, announced that she was donating several original drawings from the short film Sisyphus – screened last year as part of the tribute to Hungarian animation – to CITIA to be permanently displayed in the Musée du cinéma d'animation.
The CITIA team deeply appreciates this most generous gesture and looks forward to seeing you in June 2027 to discover who will be the winner of the very first Marcell Jankovics Award.
