Jean Dejoux and the Animograph

  1. Overview
  2. Description

Discover the fascinating story of the cartoon machine inventor, Jean Dejoux!

Animation film’s history is a constant mixture of artistry and technicity. The animograph, astonishing "machine to create movement" by Jean Dejoux (1922-2015), is no exception to the rule. This device made its mark in French animation’s history, especially thanks to the hit show, the Shadoks, whose first season was produced using Dejoux’s invention. For the release of the documentary L’Animographe, ou Je suis né dans une boîte à chaussures, produced by aaa production and directed by Thierry Dejean, les Musées d’Annecy invites you to take a look back at Jean Dejoux’s extraordinary story and the animograph through works and documents conserved in its collections.

Also, discover the permanent exhibition installed for this year’s tribute.

Swiss animation takes pride of place! The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is putting Swiss animation and its authors in the limelight. For this occasion, the Musées d’Annecy, in partnership with the Swiss Film Archive, invites you to discover a selection of works that have participated in marking the history of Swiss animation. The works displayed in the centre of the Musée du film d’animation’s permanent exhibition mainly come from the Swiss Film Archive and are accompanied by its curators’ comments.

A must-see exhibition at the Conservatoire d'art et d'histoire!

Free entry, 10:30 am to 6:00 pm, daily.
