Animation in Advertising: A True Art Form – Virgilio Villoresi: What if Méliès Had Worked in Advertising?

  1. Overview
  2. Description

Virgil Villoresi has been described as the worthy successor to George Méliès. He may be a bit of a magician, but so far he’s distinguished himself in the world of advertising.

At still only 36, Virgilio Villoresi is already a big-time filmmaker having made his name in his chosen field of advertising. This Italian creator of images has drawn his inspiration from the world of animation from such names as Jan Lenica, Chris Marker and Patrick Bokanowski.

Although he has made a few short films, it is through his ads and music videos that he has gained recognition, with an individual style that is inspired by pre-cinema and prestidigitation, and is reminiscent of the work of the filmmaker Georges Méliès.

If you’d like to find out more about this artist’s fantasy world, you can take a trip to La Turbine to see an exhibition of his kinetic sculptures.
