25 Years of DreamWorks Animation

  1. Overview
  2. Description

A large collection of original drawings and digital paintings of iconic films such as Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon are waiting for you at the château de Voltaire!

While waiting for its reopening in the Saint-Lazare station in Paris, the Art Ludique-Le Musée, the first museum in the world dedicated to the creative industries, has chosen an exceptional venue for their "off-site" exhibition, at the heart of the Pays de Gex! On an initiative by the Office du Tourisme du Pays de Gex, "25 Years of DreamWorks Animation" will be presented in the superb setting of the château de Voltaire in Ferney-Voltaire, as soon as it reopens.

Created in collaboration with the DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures International France studios, the exhibition, "25 Years of DreamWorks Animation" will display over 200 exhibits of original drawings and digital paintings from the studio’s iconic films, including Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar or Trolls, along with exclusive interviews from the artists that helped create them.

The prestigious DreamWorks Animation studio, founded by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, opened its doors to the Art Ludique team, allowing them to collaborate with the studio's artists and select the most impressive works representing their creative vision.

Those visiting the exhibition in the superb du château de Voltaire's rooms will discover the 'impertinent' spirit that characterises some of the studio's masterpieces, as well as the specificities that define the personality of the studio.

With its many cosmopolitan artists, DreamWorks has produced a number of films that could be seen as representing a sort of "animation world tour" (The Prince of Egypt, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Abominable, etc). It's also an animation studio whose artistic style is without limits, with no common recipe or formula. DreamWorks doesn't adhere to a "predefined style" for its movies, preferring to use any possible approach as long as it serves the story and narration. This is how the studio has been able to reinterpret ancient tales and legends with a poetic sensibility and sense of humour, while also creating new, modern-day fairy tales.

With this major exhibition, the Pays de Gex Tourist Office is supporting a substantial and unique cultural programme in the region. By presenting rare exhibits where a very wide audience can get together, the exhibition "25 years of DreamWorks Animation" promises to be a moment to share universes that everyone is familiar with and an immersion into the exceptional artistic virtuosity of the studio’s artists and more broadly into animation film.
