Closing Ceremony

  1. Overview
  2. Description

Four short films will be screened during the closing ceremony: "Bilby", "Dreamland", "Belly Flop" and "Gertie the Dinosaur".

The announcement of the prizewinners during the 2018 Annecy Festival's closing ceremony will be interspersed with the screening of four short films:

Bilby is directed by Liron Topaz, Pierre Perifel and JP Sans and produced by Jeff Hermann and Kelly Cooney Cilella. This short film tells the story of a very lonely bilby who has to deal with predators and the terrible dangers of the Australian bush. He unwittingly becomes the guardian angel and friend of a fledgling bird that is adorable and helpless in equal measures.

It will be followed by Dreamland, a short film by Mirai Mizue that has never been finished. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination in the world...

Then it will be the turn of Belly Flop, directed by Jeremy Collins and Kelly Dillon. It brings to life a young girl who is learning to dive and is rewarded for her perseverance by not being put off when an experienced diver steals the limelight from her.

Finally, upon the initiative of David L. Nathan, who is a specialist in the work of the American animation pioneer Winsor McCay, the historians Donald Crafton (University of Notre Dame) and Marco de Blois (Cinémathèque québécoise) have overseen a team of professionals from the National Film Board of Canada to reconstruct the original version of Gertie the Dinosaur. In a world premiere, this exceptional reconstruction is presented  with Anthony Lawton playing the role of McCay and Gabriel Thibaudeau on piano.
