Poland: Jerzy Kucia

  1. Overview
  2. Description

As evocative, lyrical and poetic films, Jerzy Kucia's work has to be deserved and savoured.

Watching a programme made up solely of Jerzy Kucia's films is a singular, challenging and nourishing experience, as they are so intense they deserve to be meditated upon rather than consumed quickly. All together, these shorts represent a coherent and compact ensemble which could seem a little daunting at first glance, but carries us to a rich world, blowing us away from normal cinematic consumption to a land that is lyrical, poetic and evocative rather than narrative.

This programme, created by the filmmaker himself, is composed of some of his major films. We're still not sure if we will have the honour of screening his latest creation, Fugue for Cello, Trumpet and Landscape as a world premier. We do know that Kucia is very busy working on the last details as the countdown to the Festival swiftly approaches. All that's left for us to do is hope!
