Le Conte de la princesse Kaguya / The Tale of Princess Kaguya, Isao Takahata - Studio Ghibli

18th Apr 2014

  Annecy is welcoming Isao Takahata

Isao Takahata, one of the greatest masters of Japanese animation, will grace the Annecy Festival with his presence.

Festival's Opening Ceremony

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, the latest film by Isao Takahata, will be screened in his presence during the Festival's opening ceremony on 9th June.

For his new production with a particular artistic look, Isao Takahata has adapted a founding text of Japanese literature that tells the story of a tiny princess, Kaguya, "the shining princess", who is found in a bamboo stalk. She quickly turns into a beautiful young woman, who is coveted by the greatest princes ready to face impossible challenges to win her hand.

The film was produced by Studio Ghibli, a key player in Japanese animation, founded by Isao Takahata, Hayao Miyazaki and the Tokuma Shoten company, which has been the source of many masterpieces, for example, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, The Wind Rises, etc.

Special Cristal Award 2014

On this occasion, the Annecy Festival will award Isao Takahata with the Honorary Award for a Career to celebrate his many contributions to the world of animation, notably for his works like Grave of the Fireflies (1988), Pom Poko (1994) and My Neighbours the Yamadas (1999).

This opening ceremony will be full of emotions and will add a splash of colour to the 2014 Festival; the first of many animated surprises.
