Thursday 9th June, attend the screening of the programme "Saying, Affirming, Revealing: Five Films of Cultural (Re)Appropriation" in conjunction with National Indigenous History Month.

As part of the National Indigenous History Month, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival is partnering a programme "Saying, Affirming, Revealing: Five Films of Cultural (Re)Appropriation" to be screened on 9th June at the Canadian Cultural Centre, Paris, in collaboration with the Montreal Sommets du cinéma d'animation.

The screening will be presented by Marco de Blois, animated films programmer and curator at the Cinémathèque québécoise.

"For the past few years, Indigenous directors and producers have been using animation to convey their values, concerns, and imagination. Furthermore, the disastrous consequences of colonialism are more and more often, and rightly so, denounced in noteworthy films.

This programme of five short animation films lets us appreciate the extent of this new boom, which is increasing animation film’s spectrum with strong, unique, and committed voices."

  • Meneath: The Hidden Island of Ethics, Terril Calder, Canada, 2021, 19 min
  • Premonition: On the Eve of Signing Treaty 6, Barry Bilinsky, Canada, 2021, 4 min
