The VR Official Selection

The third part of the Official Selection reveals the VR Works in competition.

The selection of works was chosen among over 91 projects from 30 different countries. This year, the Selection Committee decided on 8 VR Works.

"This 2022 edition will be the chance to return to Annecy's darkened rooms and put on VR headsets again to discover, among the 91 projects submitted, the 8 selected works that include 2 sneak previews.
A programme line-up that showcases fiction, documentaries, immersive works and 360° experiences.
We will set off to Antarctica along with two amusing characters on a colourful expedition with Kidnapped in Vostok; sort out a lovers tiff alongside Marco & Polo Go Round; relive an extraordinary historical event on the island of Hawaii in On the Morning You Wake; navigate the miniature world of Déjà-vu. Samsara will take us across a series of chaotic universes; Glimpse, closely follow a deer and bear’s love story; Goliath: Playing with Reality, use our voice in an interactive documentary; and Surfacing, discover Italian prisoners’ individual stories.
Ten nationalities are represented and 12 male and female directors invited.
8 works to come and discover from 13th to 18th June in the Bonlieu salle de création."

Immersive Reality Conferences

After two years of intermittent lockdowns and constant screen-use, is the future a metaverse? Maybe. Until that happens, the industry remains creative and tangible to forge the future of immersive creation. In four sequences, Annecy gives the floor to these ruminations on Tuesday 14th June, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Mifa.

  • Who is still backing immersive experiences?
  • Is traditional animation the future of virtual reality?
  • Indispensable real-time, and then what?
  • Virtual and immersive creation: training that sets the example

The XR & New Technologies Area at the Mifa

In 2022, the New Technologies Area at the Mifa is expanding and evolving. The 1st floor in the Exhibition Area is still accessible to all badgeholders and will now have an XR@Mifa room for hosting events, cocktail parties or presentations of immersive works throughout the week. It is located at the intersection of the Training Area and company stands such as Epic Games, Unity, and SideFX, and the space will make it easy for industry professionals to meet and make discoveries.
